MAGNOLIA WARBLER ~ St Govan's, Pembrokeshire (26 Sept 23)
On 23 Sept 23 the third Magnolia Warbler ( Setophaga magnolia) for the UK, and the first ever for the UK mainland, was found in Trefallen Valley, St Govan’s Head, South Pembrokeshire.
It was also the first ever recorded in Wales. (Found by Toby Phelps.)
We arrived on the evening of its discovery to find it had gone to roost 10 minutes before.
Only Toby and us were there. But we were able to congratulate him on his monumental find.
(A few days later, nearby, he only went and found the first Canada Warbler for the UK!)
Unfortunately running to see the bird before it got dark, meant that one of us tripped and busted a shoulder! Trying to avoid the massive twitch that followed, it wasn’t until th...
